A Darwin teenager, 15 year old Jennifer Hunt, is setting off on a record-breaking solo circumnavigation of Australia in a flying boat. If successful, Jennifer will be the youngest person to fly solo around Australia, the first female to fly a float plane around Australia and the youngest person to fly a float plane around Australia.
Departing Darwin on 1 September 2025, Jennifer will take on a bold four-week journey around the country in a Super Petrel LS — a two-seat amphibious aircraft. The flight will span more than 14,000 kilometres, flown entirely solo.
Jennifer, is currently Australia’s youngest female RAAus pilot, she comes from a line of aviators — but she’s the first girl in three generations to get her Pilot Certificate. Her journey, titled “Wing It and Wag It,” is more than a record attempt. It’s a celebration of freedom, courage, and carving your own path.
Although Jennifer will be flying the whole adventure by herself, she is very thankful to the family, friends, instructors and mentors who have helped make this dream a reality.

“I’m not just flying around the country,” Jennifer says. “I’m flying my third wildest dream.”
The idea of flying around Australia started when she joked, “wouldn’t it be funny if I flew around Australia?” Then she thought, why not fly around Australia? And so the adventure began. The first thing was to get a Pilot Certificate.
Kylie Hunt, CEO of Air Frontier who is sponsoring the journey said “Jennifer embodies the determination and adventurous spirit we are proud to support. Jennifer’s journey around Australia is not only a milestone in aviation, but also an inspiring reminder that young people can achieve extraordinary things.”
Raised in an aviation family, Jennifer has been surrounded by aviation since birth but only began her training in January 2025. Now, 8 months later, she is taking on one of the most ambitious solo flying challenges.

“As parents, we are very proud of Jennifer,” said her Mum and Dad. “Watching her take on this journey at such a young age is inspiring. Of course, we’ll worry every day, but we know she has been trained by very competent instructors, and mentored by excellent people giving her the skills she requires. With Jennifer’s training and unwavering determination we believe she has every possibility of success.”
Bob Bramley, who previously flew around Australia in 2019 at 16 years of age has been assisting Jennifer with some of her pre-departure questions and planning. “Seeing another young person setting such a challenge is fantastic to watch and I am proud to be able to assist with making sure she is prepared for this epic flight! To be able to share my own experiences, to help shape Jen’s journey has been a pleasure and I wish her all the best on her brilliant adventure”.
Jennifer said “although I didn’t set out to inspire others, I hope by taking on this journey, in some way, I can encourage someone else to chase their own dreams. The impossible is possible, but you will never know what you are capable of until you start working towards your goal.”
We wish Jennifer every success on her journey — and we’ll be cheering her on every step of the way!
