Catch Up with Our Scholarship Recipients
The RAAus Scholarship Program has been instrumental in supporting hundreds of individuals in achieving their dreams of becoming pilots, instructors, and maintainers. For nearly 15 years, this program has provided crucial seed funding to help offset the costs of flight training, making it more accessible to those who might not otherwise be able to afford it.
Thanks to the ongoing contributions from Airservices, OzRunways, GoFly Aviation, and the support of our Flight Training Schools, the RAAus Scholarship Program is able to continue its mission of helping people pursue their passion for aviation. Without the generosity of these organisations and individuals, many aspiring aviators would not have the financial resources necessary to pursue their goals.
So, here is how the 2024 Scholarship Recipients are progressing on their journey toward their goals!
Louis
Louis recently achieved a major milestone after receiving an Under 25 Scholarship—earning his Recreational Pilot Certificate at just 16 years old!
Louis’ mother shared, “This scholarship meant more than just financial assistance—it was a vote of confidence in Louis’ potential and a reminder that he had a community rallying behind him every step of the way.”
With the guidance and support of his instructors, Louis not only earned his certificate, but also built lasting friendships, grew in confidence, and achieved a dream he’s truly proud of. Looking ahead, he’s already planning to work toward his Cross Country and Passenger endorsements so he can share his passion for flying with family and friends!
Abbey
Abbey was excited to be awarded an Airservices Under 25 Scholarship, recognising her passion for aviation. She recently reached a major milestone by completing her first solo flight, and now has a total of 22.4 flying hours under her belt, including 1 hour of solo time.
Her goal is to use the scholarship to keep pushing forward in her aviation journey, and she’s already making great progress. Abbey’s dedication and hard work are helping her get closer to her dreams of a successful career in the skies!
Adam
Adam, an Instructor Scholarship recipient, recently completed his Instructor Rating at Namoi Aviation, NSW, under CFI Ken Flower. With a shared gliding background, they worked together to link techniques between sailplanes and three axis recreational aircraft.
Adam’s first six Trial Instructional Flight (TIF) students, all glider pilots, explored RAAus flying during an introductory weekend at the Hunter Valley Gliding Club. Now training three students converting to RAAus, Adam recently supported Jamie Bodiam (pictured) in achieving his first solo flight under Ken’s supervision.
We have no doubts that Adam’s bright future as an Instructor promises to inspire pilots and connect gliding with RAAus!
Brandon
Brandon was selected for an Airservices Under 25 Scholarship, and has made great progress, completing two training sessions with his new flight instructors at Secure Air Flight Training, based at the Shepparton Aero Club.
Brandon has now accumulated an impressive 22 hours of flight training and is fully utilising his GoFly Online subscription to enhance his learning experience!
Ben
Ben, a recipient of the Airservices Scholarship, has had a passion for aviation since childhood, largely inspired by his father. With aspirations to join the Air Force, he’s using this scholarship as a stepping stone toward his future career.
Recently, Ben achieved an exciting milestone—completing his first takeoff and landing with his flight instructor!
