Launch of Certificate II in Aeroskills – Pathway to Level 2 Maintenance Authority

RAAus Partners with TAFE NSW to Support Aircraft Maintainers

RAAus is pleased to announce a new training opportunity for members seeking to enhance their maintenance qualifications. In collaboration with TAFE NSW, we have developed the Certificate II in Aeroskills (MEA20418-01V02) to provide a structured learning pathway that assists applicants in meeting the minimum knowledge, theory and practical competency requirements for the issue of a basic Level 2 Maintenance Authority.

This course offers a comprehensive blend of self-paced study, knowledge assessments, and practical training, with face-to-face skills assessment days proposed to support learners. Participants will receive hard copy practical journals and textbooks on USB, as well as access to weekly Teams catch-ups with subject specialists.

RAAus strongly encourages all current and aspiring maintenance authority holders—including owner-maintainers—who do not hold a tertiary maintenance qualification to consider enrolling in this program. It provides an excellent opportunity to formalise and expand your skills, ensuring compliance with industry standards and reinforcing safety in recreational aviation.

Enrolment Options:

  • NSW-based students (Smart & Skilled subsidised): $1,320 – First Qualification, $1,580 – Second Qualification
  • All other states (Commercial Activities): $1,500

This training program is offered by TAFE NSW Aeroskills Tamworth, conveniently located airside at Tamworth Airport, with accommodation options available for students requiring travel for skills assessments.

To enrol please see links below in the FAQ. For more information and assistance with enrolment please contact TAFE NSW at tamworthaeroskills@tafensw.edu.au.

We look forward to seeing more RAAus members take advantage of this fantastic opportunity to build their skills and contribute to the ongoing safety and airworthiness of recreational aircraft.

The TAFE NSW team will be available at the RAAus tent at the Avalon International Airshow to answer all your questions relating to the course. Hope to see you there!

No, applicants are required to apply to RAAus for a maintenance authority and meet all requirements for the initial issue, which, further to the Certificate II qualification, is the completion of the L1 assessment, evidence of 12 months of practical maintenance experience and two referees. Completion of the Certificate II qualification significantly aids in meeting the minimum requirements for a Level 2 maintenance authority.
