Valkyrie Takes Flight for a Record and a Cause!

A young aviator from rural Queensland is preparing for takeoff on a mission that blends record-breaking ambition with heartfelt purpose

Seventeen-year-old Sophie “Valkyrie” Scutchings, a proud Chinchilla local and rising talent at Kangawallafox Flight School, is preparing to challenge the Australian record for the most takeoffs and landings by a single aircraft in daylight hours. The attempt is scheduled for October 2025 at Chinchilla Aerodrome.

The current record—145 takeoffs and landings—is held by Cameron “Sparrow” Obst, Chief Flying Instructor at Kangawallafox Flight School and another local legend from Chinchilla. Sophie will attempt to surpass that number in a Brumby 610 aircraft, under the watchful eyes and encouraging support of the Kangawallafox team and a community of aviation enthusiasts.

But for Sophie, this challenge goes beyond aviation accolades.

“I’ve recently been gifted the opportunity to get my pilot certificate and experience the magic of flight. Now, I want to give back.”

Sophie’s campaign is dedicated to supporting the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS), an incredible Australian organisation that provides essential medical services to people in remote and rural areas. The RFDS ensures that no Australian is more than two hours from emergency care—a cause close to Sophie’s heart.

“I’ll be flying a Brumby 610 at the Chinchilla Aerodrome with the support of the Kangawallafox Flight School and a handful of legends to make it count!”

As the clock ticks toward October, the aviation and local communities are rallying behind Sophie’s mission. Her story is one of youthful passion, community spirit, and a commitment to giving back—qualities that define the future of Australian aviation.

Stay tuned this October as “Valkyrie” takes to the skies to chase a record—and make a difference!
